What if natural comb is more central and critical to the health and well-being of a honey bee colony than we've ever imagined?
What if natural comb is actually a part of the body of this super-organism?
What if natural comb is intrinsic to the ways that the colony remembers, communicates, and makes decisions?
What if natural comb allows the bees to better control the micro-climate and micro-ecology of the hive?
What if natural comb is a dynamic extension of the bees themselves rather than just a Ziploc container for honey?
What if natural comb is the living, beating heart of the hive? Not only as an internal, physical organ that provides life to the hive, but in that other way in which we use the word "heart"- as the embodiment of that sense of who we are... as that place where we know whether we're doing well or not so well... as that place of which we speak when we ask one another, "How's your heart?"
In this short series, we'll explore some of these questions. More to come...
