You may remember an earlier post about how I am using last year's Sunflower stalks in my honey bee watering station to provide a way for the bees to safely land and draw up water to take back to the hive.
You may also remember an earlier post about the fact that the bees have been mining something out of the ends of the stalks.
The Sunflower stalks had been cut down last autumn, stored in a shed all winter, cut up into 8" lengths, and then put in the watering station this spring.
But, today, I discovered that one of the stalks has budded!
I'm going to be sure to keep the budded end out of the water and the other end of the stalk in the water. We'll see what happens...
